13th April, 2025 NEWS REPORT: Highlights from the General Meeting
The meeting commenced at exactly 8:45 am with an opening prayer led by Imam Saliman Rasheed, who prayed for the success and unity of the group.
The President, in his opening remarks, welcomed all attendees and acknowledged the delay in meetings due to the Ramadan period. He urged members to pay their annual dues and reminded everyone of the importance of staying aligned with the group’s programs.
Mr. Lateef Usman emphasized that the meeting should proceed point by point, for better clarity and resolution. A few observations were raised by Mr. President, particularly concerning a matter involving Mr. Lateef (popularly known as Stainless), which was clarified by the Secretary.
A constitutional matter arose, where Mr. President requested clarification on whether amendments could be made. The Secretary confirmed that the constitution allows adjustments, and the clause was read out. Mr. President acknowledged and accepted the explanation.
Mr. Usman Lateef suggested the PRO should repost the constitution to the group platform for clarity, especially for members who had previously sworn to uphold it.
Banking Discussion: The PRO raised concerns about the stringent requirements for opening a traditional bank account and suggested using a Moniepoint account as a temporary solution. The Secretary and others, including Mr. Usman Lateef, supported the idea, noting Moniepoint's ease of use. However, members were cautioned to stay observant due to government regulations that may affect fintech services.
The Secretary also mentioned that the constitution is required to open the account, but the process was previously hindered by an unreliable contact.
Financial Update: The PRO reported that 8 members had paid their dues for the current year, generating ₦38,000. Additionally, 36 members had paid last year, totaling ₦90,600. The President suggested that those yet to pay should be reminded, while the Secretary encouraged members to check on one another.
Business Suggestion: Discussions shifted to potential group projects. A major proposal was to invest in a skill acquisition and service-rendering venture such as a unisex salon. The proposal included the following benefits:
-
Monthly service slots for all members.
-
Free learning opportunities for members at home.
-
Employment for knowledgeable members.
-
Family access to free services.
-
A sustainable source of income that could eliminate annual dues.
The proposed expenses included rent, equipment, product inventory, and staff salaries.
Concerns and Suggestions: Ahmed Shittu raised concerns about limiting the business to members at home and questioned sustainability. The PRO clarified that the idea was still open to better suggestions.
Yemi Olayemi noted the low online attendance and stressed the need to reach out to inactive members. He attributed their absence to lack of internet data. Mr. Azeez and Mr. Usman Lateef supported the idea, with suggestions ranging from data giveaways to calling members directly.
Mr. Shittu proposed bulk messaging as a more efficient alternative to phone calls.
The President appreciated all contributions and emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving the group's objectives. He welcomed all project-related ideas and encouraged continuous participation.
The meeting was adjourned by the Secretary, with a promise to revisit and finalize discussions in the next session.
